Lincoln Stars to Team Up with American Cancer Society for “Jerseys Off Our Backs” Night

The Lincoln Stars hockey team and the American Cancer Society are pleased to announce their partnership for the game Saturday, March 17 versus the Des Moines Buccaneers.  The game will include specially designed game-worn jerseys that will be auctioned off immediately following the contest at the “Jerseys Off Our Backs” auction.

“The American Cancer Society is extremely excited to partner with the Lincoln Stars for this event for the fourth year in a row,” commented Mike Lefler, Director of Communications for the American Cancer Society.  “For the past several years, the Stars have been one of our organization’s biggest supporters here in Nebraska thanks to their commitment, and the commitment of their fans to the Society’s mission of saving lives and fighting back against cancer.”

The auction will be held in the Mutual of Omaha Bank Zone in the north end of the Ice Box.  Fans may register for a bid number at the Fan Services booth in the south entrance prior to the start of the auction.  Winners will receive the jersey, their photo with the player and a gift certificate from FastFrames Lincoln. “We are very excited to be partnering with the Lincoln Stars through various promotions during this hockey season,” commented Joy King, Regional Vice President for the American Cancer Society.  “Their organization has shown a commitment to our mission that demonstrates how they are invested in the fight against cancer.  We hope that the community will show their support of this partnership in order help people to get well, stay well, find cures and fight back against a disease that takes too much.”

“The American Cancer Society plays such a significant role in fundraising and awareness for many cancer-related efforts and we’re honored to be able to help out in any way to reach more people in the Lincoln community,” said Lincoln Stars President Jim Pflug.  “We’ve been so impressed by the level of commitment shown by the local supporters and volunteers of ACS, and we’re very excited to work with them.  There are so many opportunities for us to work together to help those affected by cancer and we can’t wait to get started this season.”

To help kick off the partnership in its first season, the Lincoln Stars have announced that any person purchasing new season tickets who mentions the American Cancer Society at the time of purchase will have $50 per seat donated back to the organization.  In addition, any company wishing to purchase corporate sponsorship with the Lincoln Stars for the 2009-10 season and mentions the American Cancer Society will have a portion of their sponsorship fee donated back to the Society.

The American Cancer Society will also have a presence at games throughout the year beginning with the Oct. 16 game versus the Youngstown Phantoms when the Stars will be promoting Breast Cancer Awareness.  T-shirts will be available to purchase at the game and promotions will be taking place during the night.  The Stars will also host an ACS volunteer appreciation night in January and a jersey auction in March in addition to educating fans about being proactive about their health during the entire season.

In addition to promotions at this year’s games, for the second year in a row the Lincoln Stars will also be participating in Lincoln’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on Oct. 18 at Holmes Park in Lincoln.  The walk features more than 5,000 Lincoln residents walking and raising funds to fight breast cancer.
